Solar Surplus Mining in October 2026: Key Figures and Comparison

Mining revenue of about €0.061 per kWh in October 2026, compared against feed-in tariffs in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

Bitcoin price, network difficulty, and the resulting mining revenue per kilowatt-hour change every month. This post documents the figures for October 2026 and puts them next to typical feed-in tariffs. All numbers come from a snapshot taken on 8 October 2026; nothing here is financial advice.

Network data for October 2026

  • Bitcoin price: about €73,589
  • Network difficulty: about 132.7 T
  • Block reward: about 3.143 BTC

From these values, the reference rate works out to roughly 0.0000004764 BTC per day per TH/s of submitted hashrate.

Reference miner and power use

The reference device is the Antminer S19k Pro with an efficiency of 23.94 J/TH. That corresponds to about 0.57 kWh per day per TH/s. Putting revenue and consumption together yields a mining revenue of roughly €0.061 per kWh consumed under the conditions of this snapshot.

Comparison with feed-in tariffs

The meaningful comparison is not "mining versus nothing" — it is "mining versus what that kWh would otherwise earn":

  • Germany: feed-in tariff 0.08 €/kWh, with 12 % treated as zero feed-in revenue in this view. At 0.061 €/kWh, mining revenue sits below the full tariff of 0.08 €/kWh.
  • Austria: tariff 0.06 €/kWh, 0 % zero feed-in. Here the mining revenue of 0.061 €/kWh is slightly above.
  • Switzerland: tariff 0.06 CHF/kWh, 0 % zero feed-in. Mining revenue lands close to this figure as well.

These are point-in-time numbers: price and difficulty move continuously, and the difficulty adjustment shifts revenue roughly every two weeks.

Solar power is not free

Even though sunlight costs no fuel, surplus power carries an opportunity cost. If you could feed that kWh into the grid for a payment, mining it means giving up exactly that payment. The decisive calculation is mining revenue per kWh versus your effective feed-in rate — not whether the power feels "free".

Purchase price, operation, cooling, and any pool or software fees are not included in the 0.061 €/kWh figure.

Your system decides

Actual results depend on your location, system size, shading profile, tariff, and the specific miner you run. The figures above are worked examples based on a single reference device.
